Warning: These pages are really outdated!

Three years ago I installed "Freedos" on my Compaq Contura Aero, a version of DOS which is free software. It turned out to be an interesting puzzle, just like GNU/Linux.

A few days ago I found my notes and ideas that I already had prepared for a new section on this website. I publish them now, although they are a bit fragmentary and not all of the problems were solved.

There are already newer versions of freedos and its applications at the Freedos Website. Nevertheless the information on this website cover my installed version from 2003.

If you have fun trying freedos on an aero yourself and you find some better solutions, please send them over. At the moment I don't find enough time for this hobby, so I stopped exploring these possibilities myself.

Even though my installation of freedos and dos-networking on the aero is still some years old, it has a big advantage: It works.

Have fun with it!
