The utility does not force the parallel port into ECP mode. It enables access to the registers required to place the port in EPP or ECP mode. SUPERSEDES: N/A HOW TO USE: 1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. The recommended directory name, used in the examples in step 4, is C:\CPQ. The file that is downloaded is SP1837.EXE. 2. From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file: SP1837 [ENTER] The following files should be created: SETECP.EXE SETECP.DOC 3. After the files are created, you may delete the downloaded file SP1837.EXE if you wish. 4. Add a line to either AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS (not both) to load SETECP, as in the following examples. IMPORTANT: SETECP must be loaded prior to any other drivers that require EPP or ECP support. To load SETECP from the AUTOEXEC.BAT file, add the following line: :\\SETECP.EXE Example: C:\CPQ\SETECP.EXE To load SETECP from the CONFIG.SYS file, add the following line: DEVICE=:\\SETECP.EXE Example: DEVICE=C:\CPQ\SETECP.EXE 5. Save the changes to the appropriate file, and exit the editor. 6. Reboot the machine for the changes to take effect. 7. A message should be displayed saying "ECP is enabled" upon successful completion.
